Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is bullying and harassment using technology.  Social media gives bullies a safe environment to say what they want and target who they please.  Forms of cyberbullying can include spreading malicious rumours, stalking, grooming or any form of abuse online.

Over half of the UK's 12 to 15 year olds have faced some form of bullying, including Cyberbullying over the last year. Research by the National Centre for Social Research found that 47% of young people reported being bullied at the age of 14. The same study showed that girls are more likely to be bullied, than boys, in that same age group.

The National Bullying Helpline has useful information and advice for victims of online bullying or harassment.  The helpline is open Mon-Fri from 9am-5pm.

Childline: Cyberbullying - The childline website provides information for young people in a child friendly way.  Their guidance is clear, covering what to do if you are being bullied, know someone who is being bullied, and for the bully themselves.
